ASPIN CLEANING GUIDES / Surface Care

Stainless-Steel Cleaning: Start With the Finish

Identify the stainless-steel surface, finish and equipment instructions before choosing a cleaner or tool. Keep routine cleaning separate from repair or refinishing.

Stainless steel appears throughout commercial kitchens, but an appliance is rarely a single uniform surface. Panels, seams, coatings, controls and adjacent materials may need different care. Identify the actual component before deciding how to clean it.

Check the equipment guidance

Locate the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions for the item and finish. Note restrictions on cleaners, abrasives and tools. Do not infer compatibility from a successful result on another appliance with a similar appearance.

When the material or finish is unknown, ask the equipment supplier. A cleaning employee should not have to identify a surface through trial and error. Keep the confirmed information in the site’s surface inventory.

Match the task to the soil

Separate routine grime and non-burnt grease from heavy deposits or surface damage. Multi-SF is described by Aspin for everyday soils on compatible surfaces, with stainless steel included in its existing product guidance. Follow the current label and appliance instructions for application and removal.

A heavy-duty degreaser requires its own compatibility assessment. Do not escalate automatically because a mark remains after the routine process. The mark may need a different assessment rather than a stronger cleaning step.

Control the tools and final check

Record the tools approved for the surface and keep them assigned to the task. A contaminated or unsuitable pad can undermine an otherwise appropriate product choice. Follow the equipment guidance for the permitted cleaning direction and finishing method where specified.

Inspect under normal workplace lighting after the approved process is complete. Record streaks, persistent residue or changed appearance without attempting unapproved polishing or refinishing.

Use a compact care record

  • Appliance and exact component.
  • Confirmed material and finish.
  • Manufacturer’s care reference.
  • Product and tool selection.
  • Removal or rinsing requirements.
  • Exception and escalation contact.

This record also helps purchasing when a panel or appliance is replaced. Review the surface inventory guide and contact Aspin for product questions once the application is clearly identified.
