A container’s price does not tell you the cost of the cleaning solution it produces. For a useful comparison, first confirm how each product’s label defines dilution and whether the proposed products are suitable for the same task.
Use the instruction exactly as written
“Add product to water” and “make up to a final volume” are different instructions. Do not substitute one calculation for the other. Ask the supplier to clarify ambiguous wording before calculating expected yield.
Use a common unit for concentrate volume and price. Record the container size, net price and any separate delivery charge. Keep taxes and other charges consistent across the comparison.
Work through a hypothetical example
Suppose an approved instruction for an imaginary product specifies 10 mL of concentrate for each litre of finished solution. A 5 L container contains 5,000 mL, so its theoretical yield is 5,000 ÷ 10 = 500 L of finished solution. At an illustrative price of $50, the concentrate cost is $50 ÷ 500 = $0.10 per finished litre.
These are invented numbers to explain the calculation, not a dilution recommendation or an Aspin price. Actual instructions, losses and task conditions determine the usable quantity at your site.
Compare the same outcome
A lower calculated cost per litre is not automatically better value. The product must be suitable for the surface and task, and staff must be able to follow its instructions. Include required tools, preparation and any additional process stages in the purchasing review.
Record:
- Product and approved application.
- Container volume and comparable price basis.
- Exact instruction used in the calculation.
- Theoretical solution yield.
- Observed use during a representative task.
- Labour, support and handling considerations.
Check the calculation after use
Compare theoretical yield with a controlled operational record. Spills, leftover prepared solution or inconsistent preparation can change actual consumption. Investigate the process rather than quietly changing the approved dilution.
Use the product evaluation guide for a defined cleaning task and compare Aspin products by intended use before comparing their purchase prices.
