ASPIN CLEANING GUIDES / Warewashing

Commercial Dishwasher Opening Checks

Create an opening checklist tied to your machine’s instructions. Confirm readiness, supplies and reporting before the first busy period of service.

Opening checks help a team discover missing supplies or unresolved issues before the rush. They should be based on the machine’s manual and the site’s operating procedures, with a clear distinction between operator checks and work reserved for a technician.

Build the checklist from the manual

Identify the steps an operator is instructed and trained to perform before use. Keep the checklist specific to the installed machine. A generic list copied from another kitchen may refer to a different design or omit a requirement that matters at your site.

Use the equipment make and model as the checklist heading. Record the manual version or location so a supervisor can check an unclear step. Where the procedure requires a reading or verification, include the actual acceptance criteria from the approved source instead of an improvised number.

Check the work area as well as the machine

Confirm that the intended racks and handling tools are available, clean and in their designated places. Review any unresolved handover note from the previous shift. A machine can appear ready while the surrounding workflow is still missing essential items.

Check product identity and supply using the site’s authorised procedure. The employee should know which container is detergent and which is rinse additive, and who to call if either is low or incorrectly connected. Do not disconnect lines simply to investigate.

Make exceptions actionable

Every “not ready” result should lead to a named response. Use three fields: issue found, person notified and action required before operation resumes. A tick box without a response route can turn into a record of a problem that nobody owns.

For example, a missing rack should trigger a request for the correct rack, not an improvised load arrangement. A warning displayed by the machine should be handled according to its instructions and the site’s escalation process.

Keep the record short

The routine needs to fit opening work. Review it with the people using it and remove duplicated paperwork. Retain checks that support an actual decision.

Pair opening checks with a closing handover routine. For installation or recurring readiness problems, ask Aspin about equipment support.
