Repeated carbon buildup can turn into a cycle of urgent cleaning without a review of the underlying routine. Begin by identifying the exact equipment and location affected. “The grill is always dirty” is less useful than a consistent record of one area and its condition.
Define what returns and when
Record the equipment identity, the observed deposit and the interval between cleaning and recurrence. Note the type of work performed during that period, including unusual service demand or a menu change. Photographs taken from the same position can support the description.
Avoid claiming that a visual appearance identifies the deposit’s composition. If there is uncertainty about the material, surface condition or suitable treatment, obtain the equipment or product supplier’s advice.
Review the approved routine
Compare what the written procedure requires with what staff can realistically complete. Check preparation, access, tools, product instructions and the final inspection. A task may be documented but repeatedly shortened because another team needs the equipment immediately.
Ask the employee to describe the difficult step. The answer may reveal an inaccessible corner, an unclear instruction or insufficient time for the approved process.
Separate frequency from intensity
An earlier routine-cleaning intervention and a stronger chemical treatment are different decisions. Do not escalate concentration, contact time or application temperature beyond the current product and equipment instructions. Any change should have a defined reason and responsible person.
Use this review record:
- Location and equipment surface.
- Approved method and reference.
- Date and result of the last task.
- Workload before the deposit reappeared.
- Process obstacle identified.
- Proposed change and follow-up date.
Check whether the change helped
Compare the same location after a representative operating period. Record both the appearance and the work needed to complete the next approved cleaning. If the issue persists, retain that history for the supplier or equipment consultation.
