Vertical grease-removal tasks need more planning than a product choice. Access, surrounding surfaces and the route of any liquid all affect how the task should be organised. Start by defining the exact area employees are trained and authorised to clean.
Mark the task boundary
Identify the surface material and finish, then check the equipment or fixture instructions. Note nearby controls, electrical components, open food, packaging and surfaces with a different material. Include what must be protected or removed under the approved procedure.
Do not extend a routine cleaning task into inaccessible equipment or a specialist ventilation system. The fact that grease is visible does not make every part of that system an operator-cleaning task.
Plan access before application
Decide how the worker will reach the area using the site’s approved access arrangements. If the task requires reaching over active equipment or using an improvised platform, stop and reorganise the work. Product performance cannot resolve an unsafe work position.
Define the order of small work sections so the employee can complete the required application and removal process without losing track of treated areas. Use the current label for permitted application, contact and rinsing instructions.
Account for runoff and adjacent work
Prepare the area in accordance with the product, equipment and workplace procedures. Identify where liquid could travel and how surrounding operations will be kept separate. Do not assume a lower shelf, floor or different metal can tolerate the same cleaner.
A planning checklist should name:
- The surface and permitted product.
- Access method and task boundary.
- Adjacent materials and protection requirements.
- Application and removal sequence.
- Inspection and return-to-use owner.
Select the product for the approved application
Ben’s Degreaser is a foaming alkaline cleaner intended for demanding grease-removal applications on compatible equipment. Its handling and material restrictions still apply to a vertical surface; foam is not a substitute for planning.
Build the task from your surface inventory and contact the equipment supplier or Aspin where the product application needs clarification.
